There’s a chasm
in my heart--
One that has no bridge
across it.
The gulf that was
created
when the bridge was washed away,
left us both divided
from the common bond
we shared--
And that, too, was swept away
in the roaring of the river.
On opposite sides
of this schism we stand…
unable, it seems,
to bridge the gap,
but in my heart
I feel the need
to erase
the span between us.
Can you help me
mend this rift--
Build a bridge
to our tomorrow?
We need the tools of
forgiveness,
love and empathy
to build across this chasm.
Can you meet me half-way there--
So that together…
we can walk across
the bridge to our tomorrow?

I enjoyed this tender and passionately hopeful expression.
