Perfect Pie in the Sky

After such tremendous success
with satiating her father
with her Atlantic pea soup fog
and “Mashed Potatoes in a Gravy Sky”
the Ogress set out to please him again
by baking him a pie.

She peeked through the clouds
at six recipe books,
and found more than four to make.

She decided on cherry, and chocolate silk,
and maybe a pumpkin too…
But her Daddy’s favorite was pecan pie,
so she’d have to make one of those.
And just so the tarts would equal the sweets
she’d have to make a rhubarb
          (for the Do(o)rman…
Maybe he’d pucker up!  hee, hee)

The clouds of flour flew in the air
as she mixed and rolled out the dough
(If you had seen those cumulous clouds
you would have called her “The StormSpinner” too!)
Alas, the flour blotted out, a little of the recipes…
No matter, thought she, for she was a pro
and could make pies without batting an eye.

She plopped in the homemade cherry filling
and smiled as she covered it up.

She borrowed some pumpkin
from the setting sun
and whisked it up with some eggs and milk
and poured it in the pan.

She picked some rhubarb
at her friend Karla ‘s
and chopped it up so fine…
With the recipe lost,
she reasoned that rhubarb pie should take
just as much flour as sugar.

It seemed a smidge sticky,
but she figured it was because
rhubarb’s a little juicy and bitter.
She covered the pie with a perfect crust
and pronounced it ready to bake.

She whipped up the filling for the pecan pie
and poured it over the nuts.
She knew it was next to perfection!

Only 200.8 minutes were left in the day
so she put them all in to bake
along with the crust for the chocolate pie
(She’d decided with time constraints
pudding would have to do…)
(She had found an old package
          up in the cupboard
alongside a bag of dried onions
and a bag of coconut, too)

The coconut would add a nice touch,
she thought, as beat up the pudding.
She poured the pudding in the crust
and set it in the Arctic to chill.

She made clouds of dust
as she cleaned up her mess,
but she smiled as she did it…
She was thinking of compliments,
sure to be given,
when her pies were eaten that night...
“One of my very favorites from you –
[It’s] soft... Creamy…. Delicious.Ness. here-
Just homemade (Naturemade) good.Ness!”

The pies looked perfect when the timer rang,
          All except for that rhubarb…
which still looked a little bit sticky,
so she put it back in (three times!)

There was a gentle breeze blowing
through the window
so she set them on the sill to cool.

Her family came home from the fields
and she served them delicious dinner
then went to retrieve the pies.

She heard a funny chattering noise
and glanced at the sill to find…
“No Lumps” on the pecan pie!
But a little cloud squirrel with a fluffy tail
and two full cheeks of pecans…
His eyes twinkled merrily and seemed to say,
“This is good!  May I have ‘More, Please?’”

At least she had the other pies…

Her brother wanted cherry pie
and she served him up a piece;
but he found more pits than she’d admit
in that one little piece of pie.

Her mother asked for pumpkin pie,
but when she gave her a slice…
She noticed the side of it sported an egg,
with the white and the yolk intact.
To top it off, she’d forgotten to add
the sugar and the salt!

"No harm done, dear,” said her mother…
(With “love” and a little “hug”)
“I’ll just add them on top.”

Crestfallen now, and three pies ruined,
she took a bite of pudding …
only to find that the bag of dried onions
had flavored not only the co-co-nut
but also the choc-o-late pudding!

Deciding to sample the Do(o)rman’s treat
before she was embarrassed again,
she cut into the pie,
only to find…
it was dough on the inside and out.

Her humiliation complete,
she decided she was finished with baking!
Maybe she would try, instead,
her hand at sewing things…

To be continued…

Very imaginative fun, Cryssa. You can save some of the rhubarb for me, but I'll have to pass on the chocolate-onion, although I can see how that might become a health food.........Jerry

Too, too funny, girl--funnier still, knowing the back stories... what about cream dribbling to the floor? You left out that part... and what does this mean? " <!--[if !supportLineBreakNewLine]-->
<!--[endif]-->" Just wondering...edit?

I like her kitchen. It's much larger than mine. --Charlie
