Black and white,
-Disparity-
People try to tell me
that we are opposites
and I am not her mother,
because…

She is black
& I am white

But I submit to them…
There are stronger ties that bind,
invisible to all,
that connect us to each other
& the strings are color blind…

 formed not from birth,
but from love,
and built within our hearts--
Do not decry our union
because of our skin colors!

She is black
& I am white,
and as a mother-daughter pair...
we compliment each other

We are each a soul entrapped in a casing that offers different views to the outside whether beautiful or ugly, crippled or whole, black or white. Inside, the souls alike kneel to the sovereignty of God and the knowledge that we are made for each other. Good one to get me started, Cryssa....Jerry

Sweet lady your heart is color blind and thank goodness for that. Your heart only likes to emit love to black, white, purple, or red,it wouldn't matter to you. Excellent write. Liz

It is awful someone would say that to you. i hope they didn't say it to your daughter as well. You don't need to be a blood relative to parent a child. It is inhumane to say such things. Stand strong Chryssa!

Well done my friend...others are always too eager to give out advice, criticism, and opinions. However, parents know there own hearts, love, and maternal feelings as no other! Love isn't about color but the compassion and love that fuels, generates, and radiates from one human to another making life what it should be...a great write indeed!
Blessings,

Your family... ? A simple dessert. Eight huge scoops of chocolate, six of vanilla, one of chocolate swirl, and one more of Heavenly Hash. That, all over some split bananas, and drizzled liberally with caramel makes a happy bowl for the whole gang to dig into-- and love every slurpy bite. And Cryss...just in case you didn't know...the littlest one gets to lick out the bowl. --Charlie

GLORIOUS TRIUMPH in your words... how wonderful the world would be if we could all be in the privileged relationship you enjoy, Cryssa... If only the rest of us would take up your lead as you "teach the world to sing in perfect harmony". May you be mutually blessed. Unity in diversity is what it's all about...

And I am awed by all your wonderful comments on my backlisted poems! Thank you so much for having a browse... it makes having a library online so worthwhile! Once a poem is up, I almost forget it exists... but for kind readers like you! THANK YOU!:)) Kate xx

People will always say something: a mother is too young, too old, too something. Judging is a common activity, it seems! The same soul inhabits us and what links us, as you said, is invisible, therefore strong.

A mother's love is color blind and rightfully so. What truly matters to the child is in knowing they are loved, stay the course....

"People try to tell me....I am not her mother, because ... she is black & I am white...." So?!??

Love knows no color, as George (below) perfectly said.

Don't you think if the real parents could take care of her, they would have? They couldn't, so you stepped in to fill the void in her heart with love - love she (YOU) needed. That makes you her mother: case closed.

Don't ever let the cruel comments of people stop you from loving your daughter, because that's exactly who she is - your daughter, her ebony to compliment your ivory, her pepper to enhance your salt. :)

Telling write of what "different" families go through on a daily basis - would the ones who criticize be so brave to step up to the plate and take in a child? I know I couldn't - can't afford, for one, don't have the patience, but hang it all, not going to tear apart what God has surely joined together!!!

You go, girls - YOU ROCK!

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

You are every much her mother; don't let anyone tell you otherwise! You adopted her, legally, and so that makes her yours. Let her know that; don't ever let her (or your other children) feel ashamed about being adopted; let them know how proud you are of them, and let them be proud of who they are and how far they've come! God bless you, Cryssa; I admire families like yours!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :D
