Poets are an fantastic breed

Poets

Chimaera bred, we see things slant
with dragon eyes and human bent.
Our gorgon heads
our griffin legs
they glisten in the sun.

We listen sharp with eagle ears
but snake-infested mind adjures.
The writhing winds
the thriving fiends
we taste them on our tongues.

Our feet are clawed, our hands are pawed
passant, we daub the wrested word.
We bleed it ill
we blend it till
our monstrous child’s begun.

Loving your wordplay here and the alliteration sets it all off perfectly. It's captivating too. Like I should be looking in a magic mirror and seeing a secret part of myself.

Mmmm! That tastes so great on the tongue. "The writhing winds/ the thriving fiends" -- reading that was like eating peanutbutter; it gets stuck on the roof of your mouth, and your tongue has clean it away. Then "We bleed it ill, we blend it till"-- a fancy blend of
B's and L's. The whole meal was delicious. Mmmmm! --Charlie
