A true HERO is one who is ordinary but does extraordinary things even when terrified him or herself.

A True Hero

Little Billy and Willy went to the park.

They started to get frightened as it became dark.

So Willy grabbed a hand and started for home.

He wasn’t too afraid for he wasn’t alone.

As they got closer to their front door a light came on.

Momma was standing there saying, “Where’s my other son?”

“He’s right here Momma, he’s holding my hand.”

“Willy it’s not Billy, it’s the hand of Timmy Sand.”

“Oh, I must have grabbed Timmy’s hand by mistake.”

“Billy must be frightened all alone in the park by the lake.”

I’ll go get Billy Momma but I’m frightened too.

It’s dark out there, the skies black and blue.

But I will go Momma if you tell me I must.

I’ll bring Billy home Momma that you can trust.

So off Willy went with little Timmy in tow.

To get little Billy, who must be frightened so.

He dropped Timmy off at his home on the way.

And went to seek Billy, if it took the rest of the day.

No where he looked could he find little Billy.

It was driving him crazy and scaring him silly.

He called out his name but heard no reply.

It was like Billy vanished in a blink of an eye.

No one knew was there was a man lurking there.

Just waiting for a chance to pounce and to scare.

As scared as Willy was he headed directly towards the man.

That’s when he saw Billy being dragged through the sand.

He screamed with a voice that he never heard before.

All the neighbors came bursting out of their front doors.

The man scampered off into the dark from whence he came.

Little Billy just lay there not hearing his name.

Willy held his dear brother tightly in his embrace.

Willy's heartfelt tears fell on little Billy’s face.

Billy awoke with tears in his eyes, and held his brother tight.

Saying, “Thank you for coming back, I get so scared at night.”

bravery comes in small packages as well as large -- on foreign soil or the lot next door -- heroes know no bounds -- this is a wonderful story Bonnie -- saddle the horse of great joy and ride to the place where love and peace await -- JMW

A great ending to a great story.Sometimes I always ask myself why do people do these things to children and it seems that I will never know the answer to that question.Children are much more smarter than we adults give them credit for,but they have that innocence that can make any sicko do manipulative things and we have to teach our children to be careful and never talk to strangers.take care

A frightening tale... for parents as well as for children involved. And yes, Bonnie. You are very right. The bravery and courage of little children often puts our adult feeble attempts to shame. It's not just their inbuilt do-or-dare, or their lack of self-awareness. It is an integrity to do the needful thing which often, as grown-ups, we shy away from. Heart-stopping story. TY Kate xx

Brotherly love well illustrated.

A poem with a heart Bonnie May.

But where was the mother at all that time, when she let her kids be by themselves at the lake after dark? It sure wasn't Central Park in New York or your poem would had a radically different ending!

I think you could write a little parental guilt into the next one of these, for not even going with her son find the other son. So what's the moral here, Bonnie May?

In my neighborhood, neither kid would come back alive, and the mother would be in jail. We hear about the tragic results of this un-parental behavior on the news and the cop shows all the time. This a sad commentary on contemporary life. Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Very honest but scarey human interest aspect but yes siblings do tend to look out of each other even though they often fight amongst themselves.

Every parents nightmare! A captivating write of reality...scary but it's happened many times....glad this one had a happy ending and glad it was just a dream, but a dream that cause a child to be more alert and cautious...well done!
