Dedicated to loved ones who've passed on and to those who've moved on
They judge me all they want
but this place will never be the same
remembering ghosts of friends
who’ve since forgotten my name.
The walls of this old house
remembers laughter of days gone by
and the dark shadows of its pain
haunts each tear that I did cry.
I know you’re out there somewhere
Would we chose this life again?
Oh, how this must truly look
to someone outside looking in.
My soul is festered with regret.
Past moments haunting in chains
bound to forever roam my mind
and relive each moment again.
How can someplace so familiar
become such a frightening place?
So sad to know that you’ll never enter
and put the smile on this face.
I know that it’s time that I move on.
My feet have already taken those steps.
But part of me is held back for good
as though it’s in on life’s big secret.
I hear the wind blow through at night.
No one visits for fear of these ghost.
They show up in every photograph
as though soldiers obeying their post.
What I wouldn’t give for some moments
to return to me once again, at least in heart.
But life moves on as though some grand parade.
It doesn’t really care to know who we are.
This old house has more than a century of memories
and you’re the latest for it to have to remember.
Though you are out there in life somewhere
this house fans your memory’s fading embers.
Oh, how this much truly look
to those who do not truly know.
Judging the words written here
as though a part of lover’s show.
Loved ones have passed away.
Some friends have come and gone.
I miss them all in different ways.
I can’t visit every stone.
Their memories are fresh with me.
Even though years have left me alone.
Making me such a lonely creature
and trapped in such a haunted home.
Very rich in emotion and strong images cast like old black and white pictures of lingering memories. This could be describing any institution be it a school, a hospital, an orphanage or even a prison or just as simple as a family home no longer in use,or again as Larry suggested perhaps it is just in the mind. Great write either way.
