In my corner of the lounge
Nursing a glass of gin.
Peering through the blue tinged light
I saw her saunter in.
A red scarf around her neck
Red purse held in her hand.
A cool vision dressed in black
A babe in wonderland.
She ordered a dry white wine
And lit her cigarette.
Looked intently at the bar
By now the hook was set.
A mark came to the table
Conversation begun.
Negotiations over
The deal was quickly done.
I watched them go out the door
And drank my gin and ice.
For the woman who just left
Was once my loving wife.
She wanted it all at once
I could not match her pace.
So I see her now and then
In this forsaken place.
We never exchange a word
For what is done is done.
two souls were briefly captured
In a web fate had spun.
