I Am Man

I have overcome my enemies

They have overcome me.

Pain and passion, two old friends,

Have been my constant companions.

I have screamed with rage.

I have exalted with joy.

I have doubted the existence of God.

I have prayed to God.

I have loved.

I have been loved.

I have known wealth.

I have known poverty.

I have consorted with righteous men.

I have consorted with evil men.

I have become wary of each.

I have lived life fully.

I am Man.
