Why Can't You See

Why can't you see
the loneliness in me
the nights alone with only dreams
to keep me company
you say my life is not like yours
I can't possibly know how you feel
but you don't know the emptiness
of not knowing if love is real
would he love me if I changed
and never dyed my hair
if I didn't paint my face
would he see or care
what if I eat until I'm plump
and no longer fit my dresses
or cut my hair very short
he says he likes my tresses
is it me or only my eyes
my lips, my legs, my thighs
he never seems to make me sure
no matter how hard he tries
so I spend a lot of time alone
afraid to trust and rely
on love that might be here today
and then tomorrow it might die
