My mother made it so easy when I was five
Your grandmother is with God in Heaven
Looking down to watch you grow
And I believed…at five your faith is infallible
When I got older the doubts set in
What kind of God would take my best friend
When she was just 17, I wanted her here
Not somewhere up there looking down on me
When the sixties came with their inevitable change
I KNEW there was no God, there could not be
We were born, we screwed up and then we died
Doesn’t get any simpler than that, I thought
Until growing older brought back the doubts
And the need to believe in something once again
My mother was getting older and I wanted her
Looking down from somewhere on me
Cause being good was just a little easier
With mama looking on
Now they tell me my time is near and I’m 5 once again
Cause my granddaughter believes with all her heart
That I will be up there watching her grow
And I will never let her down
It's strange how when you have those little ones looking you in the face how you will come up with anything and everything to make them feel loved and never alone. Not even alone when you know as an adult that in real life they will be. I've found myself many times in the last few years going over things that I've struggled so hard to believe in all my life, and now I'm not sure that I always do. I want to be five years old again so that I don't have to struggle anymore,,Great write and Thank you for sharing it,,Lisa

Sue, I left you a nice long comment and just as I tried to enter it ... you must have inserted the picture and it ate my comment. I hate when this happens, cause you can't repeat what you said. Anyway, I agree with you and love the way you make the poem go into a complete life circle. You do such excellent work. Bill Murray

You have a habit of bringing up things I prefer not to think of if I can.
