And the mask stayed on
No one has suspected, no one has known
Smiley face from the outside when it's worn
Sad and depressed when it's torn
Tasks were done in an automated way
Got out of bed without feeling like it every single day
Even today...yes, even today!
Changing masks like you'd change your socks
This way no one suspects, no one teases, no one mocks
Keep doing everything in an automated way
Keep doing what's important every single day...
Even today...yes, even today!
Keep the mask on, no one has to know
They don’t suspect, it doesn’t show!
The only ones that know how I should really be
Are just you and me!
So hush my dear friend, and don’t you tell!
Let me just keep living in my own private hell!
The masks we wear . . . Life charts a course for most of us which requires this masking . . . A few (I was one, once) throw the mask away and allow all to look deeply within the real them (I did it recently with "Misdemeanors & Felonies: A Memoir") . . . But for the most part masks are a useful tool to steady the course of our lives . . .
"...This way no one suspects, no one teases, no one mocks..." is heartbreaking. Sad, when we have to live a lie, so as to preserve our dignity, our sanity - powerfully penned yet again.
SURGICALLY RE-WRITTEN and CONDENSED Feb-May 2013... A MONUMENTAL JOURNEY is an adventure mystery historical fiction novel that follows a young mans journey (with friends) to find Truth, happiness, purpose, and a long lost Norse tribe.
"...This way no one suspects, no one teases, no one mocks..." is heartbreaking. Sad, when we have to live a lie, so as to preserve our dignity, our sanity - powerfully penned yet again.
(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
