If they only knew...

To the person holding a gun
Thinking its the only way out
Open your eyes and look around you
Find out what life's really about
There is sunshine after the darkness
Nothing stays the same
Ten years from now who will care
Who will place the blame
Take it one day at a time, friend
Look up , embrace the sun
No one wants to weep at your grave
When all is said and done

If they only knew...

To the person holding the pills
Tears falling to the floor
Glass of water by your side
You just can't take it anymore
Have the courage to be strong
Think of all the things you'll miss
A gentle breeze on your face
The tenderness of a kiss
Death is not a choice, my friend
No matter what others have said
There is no changing your mind
After they close the coffin lid

If they only knew...

To the person sitting in the darkness
To her wrist she holds a knife
Nothing to live for anymore
She wants only to end her life
How I wish I could make her listen
Somehow make her understand
Years go by and changes are swift
Please reach and take my hand
The world will turn, life goes on
Whatever you decide
But you won't hear the awful sound
When you mama cried

If they only knew...

If only those in suffering would speak with God.
If only they could realize they're merely lifting the load from their own shoulders and passing the misery onto those left behind.
The unrelenting pain of guilt, anguish and despair makes for an unforgivable inheritance.

This is a great message, Linda. If only your words could be heard by those most in need. Even more, I wish there were no need for you to say these words that needed to be said.
Bless you,
Richard

Linda,
it is so powerful this poem and for them so desperate, they have no hope and see no future and all they feel is the pain this one should be heard for those in need.

Peace,
Joselyn

It is our own time in that darkness that has taught us these lessons. You are honored today for the courage to hold on for just that moment more. Your poem will show a light for all that read. Lady J

Years ago I took training in suicide intervention and I was appalled at the statistics and the ofthen seemingly inane reasons for taking such a drastic step. I did however come away from the training with a new sense that often all people really want is to know someone cares enough to reach out to them. I have heard the standard line that people who commit sucicide are looking for attention...maybe so but no more than a child drowning in waters over their head scream and wave their arms for someone to save them, would we turn our backs on them?
Anyway sorry if I got on soapbox there but your poem struck close to home and heart, thank you for reminding all.

This is a wonderful message and needs to be broadcast far and wide, and hopefully your poem will find its way into many lives who need the life-saving communication that you've imparted.

Oh what a write, what a subject, this is one that touches me deeply. We lost a young family member several years ago to suicide...she left behind a sad, sad note. She didn't see anyway out of a situation, other than the grave...such decieving lies that the devil inflicted her mind that this was her escape. If only she could have known the many tears and cries from her mother...such a sad write, but one that may fall in the hands of one who is contemplating such a deed...you've penned it well my dear friend. You were surely inspired to write this one!
Blessings,

this is really wonderful linda-the reality of those moments when weakness is only strengthened by the knowledge of a new day, a family member counting on us, and the fact another kiss, hug, and smile are going to occur-as long as we hold on...

thank you,
Donna.
