I hope you all don't mind reading this poem once again. It's one of my favorites. The homeless have always touched my heart. It could be me...or any of us. Thank you for reading this.

Poem Artwork

Anonymous faces
Stare at me
Then go home
To their TV
This cold bench
Is where I stay
Wonder if I'm
In the way
Hunger ravaging
Deep in my gut
Infection in
A ragged cut
Only coldness
All around
Lonely makes
A hell of a sound

***********************

Anonymous faces
Rush on by
Not seeing the
Tears I cry
The pain of living
Is too much
I ache for one
Tender touch
Every day is
Always the same
Playing the
Survival game
Walking these old
Streets alone
Hope and happiness
Are long gone

***********************

Anonymous faces
They don't care
Smell of chicken
In the air
The world is swiftly
Moving on
I'm standing still
Existing alone
No bed to sleep in
But a cold ground
Nothing to eat
But some scraps I found
I don't own much
Just the clothes on my back
A lifetime of living
In a paper sack

Homelessness is a situation in which no human being should live in at this era. Thank you for raising your voice loud enough.

Thanks again.

Very compassionately written Linda. Your heart is overflowing with love in these words. One needs to be very careful nowadays though, many of these people are not just poor unfortunates. Many are very dangerous. Blessings to you ...

A worthy capture of real life for all too many among us, the "invisible" ones. Your images are what I think of all too often, as I cosy down between warm sheets at night, wondering how the homeless manage to survive. I like that you highlight the anonymous faces of the "ignorant" passers-by... so often it is THAT which is just so hurtful to them... the fact that we plain just "don't see them". Thank you for this touching write. Kate xx

It should be read again and again
At lot of folks can't pay the rent
or house payment and wind up
homeless, of course the banks and
big corporations only care about
the money.

This is awesome write Linda and yes I agree the line between home and homeless is only a few paycheques, a few needles, a few too many trips to the casino, a few too many drinks or any other number of things. I have been very close to that line and I know that we can all slip pretty easily. Hope more people read this and see that.

hugs,
Fee

Very compeling write. I could not begin to think what it would be like to have to be homeless as these people are. Much less survive on the streets. And I hear people sometimes choose to live like this. That's even more beyound my comprehension. Lady J

Linda,

I remember this one, and no, I don't mind reading it: it should be shouted from the rooftops!!!!! We all are hanging on the ragged edge of homelessness: it just takes one small nudge to push us over. I know, been there. And what hurts the worst: our Veterans are swelling their ranks. Excellent, excellent write.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

We need to treat the homeless better than we do or at least do something to help. Very timely reminder, Linda; thanks for reposting this! Very well done!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :( >tears! <

I hope many read this over and over again, Linda. And very sadly to me, many of America's forgotten homeless were once valiant soldiers fighting for this nation, and now, we very callously forget them, too.

Always is there someone that cares, not an anonymous face, the one that offers compassion and a smile.
Thank you for care.

In the Whirlwind by Tichaona Chinyelu

In the Whirlwind is a poetic storm that frees history from the cages of corruption and puts it in the hands of everyday people. Words are weaved into a new fashion statement that has nothing to do with runways but everything to do with projects!
