Poem Artwork

All we see are stars and stripes
But it represents so much more....
If our American flag could speak
Is this what it would say....

A dark and humid morning
A soldier kneels and prays
He dreams of family and home
As he counts the days
He don't hear the gunfire
As the bullet finds its place
He's left hurt and bleeding
Disbelief etched on his face
With pride I stand and wave
Amist war and crimson stains
You can raise me to the skies
But you can't touch my pain

******************************

I'm the red white and blue
But there is so much more to see
Blood, tears and a soldiers screams
Are sown inside of me
With every stitch of the needle
Another prayer is said
As the war rages on and on
Another soldier is dead
I wave with pride and glory
As the world goes insane
You can raise me to the skies
But you can't touch my pain

*******************************

A soldier's mother weeps in anquish
Clutching a picture of her son
Nothing can ever bring him back
When all is said and done
I hear the cries of the forgotten
Tears America can't see
A soldier holding his dying friend
No bitter taste of victory
A child weeps over her fathers grave
Standing in the pouring rain
You can raise me to the skies
But you can't touch my pain...

You brought tears to my eyes and heart Linda and this magnificent poem made me think you had been to war. A sad time in this country history many boys have become men since then such as myself. We are now serving our wives, children, families, country, and the world. If war could be construed as a Masterpiece this you have done. Peace!!!

Linda,

You've left me in tears this morning - thank you - effectively penned story of what's behind every stitch of the red, white and blue - you honor those who serve(d). Beautifully penned, a keeper (as most of your works are) - well done.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
