I was issued a challenge to write about the Apollo 13 crew and their feelings when they thought they were not going to make it back home. Unfortunately, I haven't watched the movie so I done the best I could. Thank you to all who read this...

Poem Artwork

Thoughts of my family
Ripping my heart in two
Knowing I won't see them again
,
I don't know what to do
The moon looms before me
But unable to land
A crew waits with bated breath
For my every command
Fear etched in our faces
As we realize our fate
Rather we live or we die
Is not up for debate

Flashes of my children
Their laughter ringing in my ears
My wife's hand in mine
Cuts like a knife through my tears
Anquish in my heart
Like I have never known
I can't stop the aching pain inside
Of leaving you alone
Its getting harder to breathe
Is it from fear are my fright
My crew feels sheer terror
As we glide off in the night

Engulfed in this steel tomb
Orbiting the moon
Resigned to our fate
Hoping it don't come too soon
Helplessness I feel
Knowing there's nothing I can do
I hope my wife will understand
Death won't stop my loving you
If I could turn back the clock
It would never end this way
Its a thin line between life and death
And I don't have a say...

You brought me back to that time when glued to the radio and local television stations waiting, waiting, waiting. You have captured the moment well...

Be always safe,

"Apollo 13" is an edge of the seat, suspenseful poem! Your words transported me back to that tension-filled moment in history. It reminds us how our lives hang in God's hand.
Very good Linda!

Well written descriptive poetry of what must have been going through the mind of each crew member during that time of terror and uncertainty.

The movie showed the tenacity of NASA and their access to all the best minds available at the time.........Failure was not an option.

I'm really not much into challenges, but you played this one perfectly I would say.

Fine job Linda!!!
It really was mankind's greatest space adventure.
I bought the book "Lost Moon" first, then watched Documentaries- then the movie came out.
