Poem Artwork

If they only knew...

To the person holding a gun
Thinking its the only way out
Open your eyes and look around you
Find out what life's really about
There is sunshine after the darkness
Nothing stays the same
Ten years from now who will care
Who will place the blame
Take it one day at a time, friend
Look up , embrace the sun
No one wants to weep at your grave
When all is said and done

If they only knew...

To the person holding the pills
Tears falling to the floor
Glass of water by your side
You just can't take it anymore
Have the courage to be strong
Think of all the things you'll miss
A gentle breeze on your face
The tenderness of a kiss
Death is not a choice, my friend
No matter what others have said
There is no changing your mind
After they close the coffin lid

If they only knew...

To the person sitting in the darkness
To her wrist she holds a knife
Nothing to live for anymore
She wants only to end her life
How I wish I could make her listen
Somehow make her understand
Years go by and changes are swift
Please reach and take my hand
The world will turn, life goes on
Whatever you decide
But you won't hear the awful sound
When you mama cried

If they only knew...

Beautiful, heartfelt, from the voice of someone who has "been there." I cried after I read this. But I loved the crafted vignettes. Thank you.

you bring tears to my eyes, death so permanent & love cries
the here & the now, I wish we could all learn how to shed
the well of sorrow that sometimes can engulf us. To often
people cannot overcome it...

This is truly moving, and those of us who suffer from chronic depression can certainly relate. The writing itself is masterful.

A beautiful and moving poem, good alike in its form and content. It supports life as good literature should. The use of rhyme is very subtle and does not take away from the reading at all. The poem seems close to a masterpiece.

Great poetic write Linda! I think all of us were depressed enough at least once in our lives to consider ending it all. I think of how much I can help others and be a blessing. If this life was only about me and my bucket list - forgettaboutit! It's really about being a blessing and providing service to others in need. It could be one person or a group of people. It could be providing care to one pet or a whole kennel of pets. Looking out for others is looking forward to life. Then at the end of the day you can give yourself a reward for a job well done. Amen!

Peace, Love and Blessings,

John Michael
