Looking Out My Window....( Child Abuse)

Poem Artwork

I look out my window hoping for a
Glimpse of her sweet face
Then I would know she was allright
She shouldn't be in that place.
She looks to be nine, maybe even ten
Give or take a day
Strange, how she don't go to school, or
Even go for play
Is that a bruise on her face, is that
A tear in her eye
She looks at me and cries sometimes
I can't help wondering why

Through my window I can see her, why
Is she always sad
Maybe I should go and visit, find
Out if she's treated bad
No time now, have a lot to do, can't
Be bothered, you see
Maybe tomorrow I will visit, todays
Just too busy
She stays in my mind, the little face
In the window crying so
What can I do, is she being hurt
How can I know

Morning comes, from my porch I
Can see the house next door
Her little face just staring like a Hundred times before
I see someone come behind her, pull the
Blind so she can't see
Did I hear a tiny scream, or was it The fear in me
I go off to work in haste, no time to See if she's all right
I will go over and check on her when I
Get home tonite.

Coming home from work, there were
Police cars every where
I looked up at her window but her Little face wasn't there
I heard them say they found her, beaten
And bleeding in her bed
Her parents being arrested, child abuse
The policeman said
Tears filled my eyes, I didn't know
what to say
They kept her locked up in her room
She had tried to get away

It was in the papers the next morning
How they kept her under lock an key
Gave her bread and water, God,
Why couldn't I see
The angels came for her during the
Nite, took away her pain
They buried her little body in the
Cold, pouring rain
This did not have to happen, it cuts
Through me like a knife
By not trying to help this child,
She paid with her life...

Looking out my window , no one looking Back at me
Boarded up windows and sadness is all
That I see
I wipe away a tear as I face
Another day
No child anywhere should have to
Die this way..

Linda, oustanding write. I thought I was big and tough. Why are my eyes red? We must all stop and pay attention to what goes on around us. We are just as much to blame if we allow tragedies as this to happen.

The cold chills that ran through my body as I read your poem. This made me think deep within my heart. I had just written a story on my den about another kind of abuse to children. Children are our future. Keep them all safe. Do your part and report child abuse. ~Linda~
