My Family Trree

Quite recently my precious sister began researching our family tree, and the more I learn about who I am...the more deeply I am drawn into the past...

Strong and sturdy, roots firmly anchored in eternity
My family tree has survived centuries!
Ageless, timeless, my soul is perpetually linked
To each and every twig of every single branch
That sways in the winds of tomorrow
While sheltering the essence of yesterday!
My ancestors speak to me, a myriad of voices
Carried across generations, echoes of the past
Unrecognizable, yet strangely familiar!
Now and then a gentle nudge like a loving caress…
And deep in my soul I feel my father and mother,
My grandfather and grandmother
And all of the generations before them
Walking right beside me as I journey through life.
Their truths resonate within my heart,
And their spirits live on, for I carry them into the future!
Our family tree will continue to thrive,
Tiny shoots springing from the powerful core
To grow into branches that will live on…
Nurtured by the hands of father time himself!

It is interesting to see our family trees grow until there are so many branches it's hard to keep track. When I think about it, I am a survivor from the earliest humans that walked the earth. Of all those people who died for childbearing age, or all those people, like me, who did not have children and did not pass on their genes. It is amazing that we have reached seven billion people on the earth. Perhaps it is time we should prune the family tree.

Sorry… Your poem got me going.

Nice poem Anna. Been working on my family tree for the last year or so. Interesting project. Like Patrick, my branch of our tree is coming to an end, unless one of my three granddaughters retains her last name. No grandsons..... Dick

Such a magnificent tree you have.

Alas, my tree is near its end

My father's generation consisted of 5 sons and 2 daughters

Between them they mustered 3 sons including me

I never procreated, not did my cousin

My brother had girls

And so it ends (from the male chauvinist perspective)

Your sentiments are right on. Families are multi-generational and much of who we are go beyond our immediate parents but stretch back generations. We are a multitude.

Lovely, poetic sentiments about the people who came before you and the spirit of those who still walk beside you. I feel the influence of my mother and father daily, remembering everything they told me over the years. We live to pass along their wisdom to future generations, therefore making our family tree stronger with memories and traditions. A great write, Anna.

I can always, at least almost always spot a real lady and you, Anna, my far northern, and soon to be cold friend, are a true lady and a definite complement to those that came before you. We are the sum of our parents and their parents.
Your friend, Mark
