Unfortunately

there is an unseen evil

that lurks underground
 

It destroys

and tears down

it's victim

slowly

and over long periods

of time
 

Like termites

in the foundation of a

well constructed home
 

Mostly going

unnoticed

it is rarely

punished for its crime
 

Because how do you

say, “Your words destroyed me today.”
 

Can you have a person arrested

for choosing to tear you down

with their negativity? 

No

because it leaves no black eyes

no scars, no evidence on the flesh
 

But this evil

beats children 

It whips strong women 

It ties up the most muscular of men
 

Those who verbally abuse

their loved ones

are an evil

and its consequences

sometimes have no end.
