Mighty Og scratched his mighty butt
amid the iron wood trees.
The savanah bathed him in a cool
dawn light and a gentle breeze.
His whump-whump in one meaty paw,
his other hand picked a flea
and without a vagrant thought,
he flicked it away, absently.
Down the well-trod winding path
The long-tooth tigers had their way
where the life-giving waters pooled,
luring doomed and thirsty prey.
Now being Mighty, Og could not pause
to weigh unlikely dwindling odds.
With a fetish of chicken beaks,
he growled a prayer to gorilla gods.
So armored in his dread conceit,
he sallied forth to quench his thirst.
The tigers turned and stared with glee
each one anxious to be first.
The carnage was incredible,
blood was splattered everywhere.
the whump-whump club lay still at last
And Might Og lay everywhere.
Part of him lay in a tree,
a leg floated in the pool.
entrails slicked the yellow grass.
for the tigers were most cruel.
Parts of Og were buried
under loose earth and tangled weed.
The tigers would return to snack
later when they had need.
Now day gave way to another.
Years fled swiftly, ages came,
that gave poor Og a renewed glory
as a link in the human chain.
The evolutionists convinced themselves
that the arthritic ape was some kind of man.
Their sketches did Og little justice
for accuracy was not their plan.
They glued his ape bones together
with ribs borrowed from pig and pidgeon.
A new and holy genius formed, as Og
joined the mutant pantheon.
Now daily gawk the little children,
awed before reconstructed might.
They stare open mouthed in the museum
storing nightmares for the night.

I'm about to rant. You may wish to avert your eyes: "Will those of you who practice the religion of
evolution--please keep it to yourselves. I haven't enough faith to blindly ignore the three laws of thermodynamics which disprove such bad science. You've already corrupted my favorite cartoon with this foolishness (X-men Evolution...give me a break!). If men were evolved, society would be as well. Society isn't. It's still a dangerous jungle out there. Og would feel right at home. We have our tigers too. We call them gang-bangers."
