Ruff the Not-So-Magic Dragon

The ballad of Ruff, Puff the magic dragon's not so fortunate brother.

Ruff the not-so-magic dragon
Lived in a land fill
and scavenged through cast away crap
for things he could recycle.
Tin cans skrunched beneath his toes,
a red bandana on his heads,
he played with broken Barbies,
and slept on a patched-up waterbed.

Now Jack-knife was an ex-trucker
who loved that lizard guy
he'd bring him fancy ribbons
and day-old cherry pie.
Together they'd run off the hommies
who sold crack in the park
And Jack never was afraid with Ruff
walkin after dark.

Then one day it happened
someone called animal control
they came out with nets and guns
And Ruff turned Rambo.
The carnage, it was awful,
when the swat team hit the scene.
bullets were thick as flies
Ruff ducked behind a washing machine.

Automatic rifle fire
nearly cut him through
Jack-knife wept copious tears
as did the man from the local zoo.
When the dust was settled,
pieces of dragon were every where.
Newsmen rushed off with their film
to get it on the air.

Ruff the not-so-magic dragon
lay in a pool of blood
his mighty heart was broken
by a world that had no love.
But in a near-by truck bed
lay a hidden hatchery.
Jack-knife swore to raise
the lads in Ruff's memory.

Ruff left a whole lot in his memory, and much to come after him. Quite an enjoyable tale Lee. Bill

As one who remembers his brother well this was both amusing in its form and horrific in its meaning.
