You have asked me why I love you,
because it's plain to see
you are no knight in shining armour
or the man from Galalie.
So, why then should I care so much
to hold you in my heart,
when there are guys "a dime a dozen,"
who've got "charming" to an art.
You have held me, and you've loved me;
you have wiped away tears;
your eyes and smile have picked me up
to light away my fears.
You share wisdom through your living;
I've found strength within your dreams.
You have shown me, in my darkest hour,
Life is not always what it seems.
But there is one, above all reasons why,
you're the one I love so much--
because, you see, I seen inside--
you are the soul I wish to touch.
Just to let you know I love you
in so very many ways.
If tomorrow should not find us,
and our last should be today,
please remember that I wrote this
if for only memory;
then I'll know
you'll always know
what you mean to me.
Written when I was 19 for my first husband before
we were married, this became somewhat of a foreshadowing of "Anatomy of a Divorce."
I have also given it a melody to which it can be sung; unfortunately, I cannot write music.
Certainly shows that you entered that marriage with your heart in the right place, sorry it didn't work out but at least you have a good poem to share with others.
