Favorite Time of the Year

It's my favorite time of the
year-
The magic and mistletoe; Kisses
in the doorway-
Caring; Sharing; Giving with
purest of hearts-
Getting to experience the awe, on
a child's face; and tears
of joy on a Grandmother's cheek

Watching in amazement as the
snowflakes land perfectly-
Family traditions; Eating from Mom's
best china-
Feeling close to friends; and even
closer to strangers-
Rediscovering old classmates; Catching
up; and reminiscing

Sending Christmas cards; Reading
the ones you've received-
This years, or all those you've saved-
Hanging stockings; Checking lists;
Wrapping gifts; With pretty bows-
A sparkling glass of red, or
white wine-
Savoring every sip of Dad's rich
steamy hot chocolate

Adults whispering; hoping the
little ones aren't near-
That one mystery gift beneath
the tree-
Sneaking quietly into everyone's
imagination-
Just who's and what could it be?

Pulling children close; Wanting to
hear their wishes from Santa-
Coaxing and prying; Then fulfilling
their dreams-
Garland; lights; poinsettias and tinsel;
Bing Crosby crooning from the den-
Roaring fireplaces; and roasted
chestnuts

Aaahhh...It really is my favorite
time of the year...
Christmas...with it's mistletoe
and magic-
Children laughing; Sharing and Caring;
touching gently the memories of
those no longer here-
It really is my favorite time
of the year

well done, Lisa, and this is coming from someone who loves the true meaning of Christmas but has to psyche herself up a bit to make it through the "most wonderful time of the year." I like that you made me see the season through eyes of wonder and appreciation. Dawn

Took my first horse drawn carriage ride the other day. It was snowing. My spouse was with me. We were singing "Jingle Bell" in a real one-horse open vehicle just like days gone by, and the feeling was amazing! (And I don't even like cold weather, but that night was magical!) I really feel what you're saying here, and all holiday commercialism was completely dispelled in the snowflakes.

I could only think of those later on who wished they could be alive to have such a simple pleasure. Thanks for sharing your heart Sis. Lisa.

Yep, Lisa, mine, too. Just wish others felt the same way and would carry on the giving/caring/sharing all year 'round, not at just this time of year......maybe your words will inspire them to do just that. Beautiful write!

(((((HUGS))))) and love, Karla. *Merry Christmas!*

This is a beautiful poem. It should be on a Christmas card. It's great that you have this experience at Christmas.

You have described well what makes Christmas so special to so many people and why God's birth is such a happy occasion. Merry Christmas, Lisa

This is a wonderful and heart-warming poem, Lisa. You take the best and remind us all that it should be a fun time of year, a time for making memories that will last a lifetime. It is not about buying the best gift on the face of the earth, it is about sharing and about the gift that was given to us so long ago in that tiny manger somewhere in Bethlehem. The gift of the season is love and you have made that so plainly clear in this wonderful poem. Thank you, Lisa, for reminding us all about what is really important. Your writings always strike a cord with me and awaken something within my soul.

Take care,

Sherry
