Following The Sun
I watch as her beauty fades,
And is replaced by that ethereal glowing,
The dying gain,
In some sick compensation,
For giving themselves over,
To a life of pain pills and too little food…
Yet to me,
She is more beautiful than ever,
In her silent suffering,
Her desperate desire to live,
Just one more day…
In our hearts,
We hope that tomorrow,
Will bring a miracle,
And relief from her pain…
But our minds know,
Those miracles are not for such as us,
The people that God forgot,
In his quest for glory…
We do not believe in dogma,
Or the words that men speak,
In solemn tones,
In hollowed tombs,
Where they worship their dead…
I watch her fade,
Slowly becoming gray,
Slowly becoming,
Like the dawn of a new day…
Soon she will fade completely,
And all I will see is the sunflowers,
She loved so much,
I asked her why one day,
And she said,
Because they follow the sun,
As it crawls across the sky,
Then bow their heads in silence,
Until it rises again…
As I am watching her,
As she moves through life,
And when she bows her head,
I too will wait,
Until she rises again…
She talks to herself,
A habit she developed,
From spending,
Too many years alone…
Her cat is the only friend,
She has now-
And he uses this knowledge well,
They talk to each other,
In that easy comforting way,
Life long companions have…
When she moans for the ache in her bones,
He noses her gently and meows softly,
Asking in his cat-like way,
If she is okay;
She smiles and reassures him,
By scratching under his chin,
Whispering softly;
“It’s okay boy-
Just time for another pill…"

Like how you used the sun flower as a meterphor. The tranquillity and solitude cascade throughout this poem..
i enjoyed reading this poem
shattering write of loss, but such a lovely sunflower...powerfully expressed
*tears*--this poem DID make me cry, tears are running down my face, can harldly see--
(((HUGS))) and ove, karla. :(
The Lord has not forgotten. He knows everything about everyone. When He died on the cross and was resurrected, He suffered and died for her and us. He wanted to show us how we, too, will be resurrected. He receives His glory in Heaven, and she and we'll also suffer and die before we can be resurrected into an everlasting life. Those who believe and trust in Him will live in a place even more beautiful than that radiant sunflower.

This poem says volumes about life, love, heartache, death, and even the special bond a human can have with an extremely compassionate animal.
Kudos on a magnificent piece.
that few can attain. Very heartfelt, compelling poetry!
The ache and years gone by. Her soul
in need of going home to God now.
I can see it so clearly. Thank you
