The big payoff

Our Golden Years

We used to be so handsome, and we used to be so strong
We used to have a lot of hair up there where it belongs
We used to save our money by drinking only beers
We used to say we couldn’t wait to reach our golden years.

[chorus]
Well, these are them! It’s time to have some fun
Yes, these are them! Our working days are done
We’ve paid our dues, we just can’t lose, let’s give a great big cheer
Get up reload, let’s hit the road, our golden days are here!

We raised our kids to earn their way and not rely on us
We taught ‘em how to fight and we taught ’em how to cuss
We taught ‘em how to dance and we taught ‘em how to sing
And just as soon as they got hired we cut the apron strings.

[chorus]
Well, these are them! It’s time to have some fun.
Yes, these are them! Our working days are done.
We’ve paid our dues, we just can’t lose, let’s give a great big cheer
Get up reload, let’s hit the road, our golden days are here!

Now we’re gettin’ kinda’ wobbly and we’re gettin’ kinda weak
And we’re gettin’ kinda horny when we’re dancin’ cheek to cheek
And we’re gettin’ kinda mellow and our eyes are full of tears
But step aside we’re gonna ride right through our golden years.

[chorus]
Well, these are them! It’s time to have some fun.
Yes, these are them! Our working days are done.
We’ve paid our dues, we just can’t lose, let’s give a great big cheer
Get up reload, let’s hit the road, our golden days are here!

Now our memory’s growin’ dimmer and our drivin’ days are through
And our rockin’ days are shorter and there’s not much else to do
So when you hear us fartin’ remember…that’s music to our ears
It means we're passin’ gas and blastin’ through our golden years.

[chorus]
Well, these are them! It’s time to have some fun.
Yes, these are them! Our working days are done.
We’ve paid our dues, we just can’t lose, let’s give a great big cheer
Get up reload, let’s hit the road, our golden days are here!

OMG! You've written a golden oldie! I can't wait to see a bunch of old codgers singing this song on YouTube. It seems to have a melody already built into the words. You are not only a mean economist, you are a talented poet and songwriter, too. Kudos to you!
