This Lady is Alive!

What if each living thing in this world had a soul
Would it matter how we moved about
If every bird every bee
Every flower and tree
Could be harmed by a kick or a flout?

Let’s carry that thought one step further
To include this magnificent place we call Earth
With its mountains and seas
And its exquisite breeze
That cools and consoles each new birth.

How could we show disrespect to such treasures
That she holds in the palm of her hand
With her power and beauty
Would it not be our duty
To protect them as well as we can?

Yes, she’s a lady who cradles her children
With a love that transcends all we do
With horizons that beckon
Every minute and second
That inspires us and helps us get through.

In return she expects little from us
Just take care that each of her souls
Has its chance to bloom
While we live and consume
And pursue our bountiful goals.

She knows her true place in the heavens
With a certainty none of us can
She honors her trust
Like pure angel dust
As part of a wonderful plan.

We live here for only a moment
While she travels through time without end
She will survive
Whether we’re dead or alive
It's a friendship we dare not upend.
