Featuring comets, evolution, bombs, and us

Life on Earth

Comets streak in mystery across the sky
In silence never explaining why
Carrying water essential to this thing called life
From Oort’s Cloud in fortuitous rife.

In time the oceans teemed with creatures
With appetites and ugly features
The fittest flowing with the tides
Thence escaping where the sun abides.

Adapting there upon the land
And changing into ants and man
That’s how evolutionists explain it
And who am I to coup de main it?

We grew in swarms and killed with ease
Defiled the land much as we pleased
Denied our sins against the world
In dreary lies that flapped unfurled.

We built techno giants to the skies
And reaped winds of profits as our prize
Polluted the air despoiled the streams
Enslaved the masses and stole their dreams.

We split the atom unleashed its power
Thought we had found our finest hour
Built mighty missiles without emotion
Marveled with each massive explosion.

Might makes right the strong will live
Stand our ground let others give
Onward soldiers march to war
Kill the ones that we abhor.

Off in the distance a tiny light
Streaks our way with preemptive rights
Is it comet missile or heaven’s warning
That comes to call without adorning?

Perhaps just a comet with heaven’s blessing
Its aim however is more distressing
A mighty impact is on our way
We cannot stop it we’d better pray.

Dear God come and save the day
Please hold that fiery thing at bay
We’ll change our ways and that’s for certain
Just don’t pull down that cosmic curtain.

The meteor streaks across the sky
In silence never explaining why.

Brimming with understatement of purpose. Well done!

This is a keeper with a message that all should heed. We are but like ants in the cosmos. But we have knowledge of that cosmos and that gives us power to determine our fate and the fate of all in our purview.

There is a strange mixture of comets and meteors, though.

Living in paradise and what do we do? This is a terrific write which puts it all so well.I fear for my grandchildren's future, the wilful destruction that's taken place, and looks like we've never made progress. The savage beast still thrives amongst us. Thanks for this.

Quite a comet's tale. I especially liked the 4th, 5th and 6th stanzas.
Excellent excellent write.

Splendid. Really like that line, "In dreary lies that flapped unfurled."

Eh . . . A lot of intelligent words and lines within the confines of this little gem. The comet will hit us, or it won't, don't think God had anything to do with it, either making the comet, or stopping it, and I doubt we would change our ways either. Would like to think we would, but I doubt it.
