False hopes are like
Whispers of bad faith that come to us
From a place where deeds and our potential
Become drowned and lost from reality;
They arise from fears
That we are not good enough
When our spiritual strength falters
Our resolve is caught off guard
And we fall from the
Treadmill of life.
Desire has no rest
It thrives in abundance denial
And arrives when least we expect it
Especially on life’s plateau
Where serenity is the norm
And we have little to fall back on
But purpose and persistence
And love.
Time is the great healer
But it too has its own limitations
For out there in the distance or
Even in the next step
It too can trip us up
And disrupt what we always
Thought was
The endless wheel of life.
In war and peace
We speak of end games
And exit strategies while
In the midst of shock and awe
But the wheel turns
Then as now
And grants us no favors.
We can measure life in heartbeats
Or in days of wine and roses
Or in distances run
We can forecast our happiness
But never predict when
Not next year
Not tomorrow
Only now.
A very interesting survey of life as we know it. Through broad sweeping strokes of the pen you have touched on what is essential and what is the reality so many caught up in endless repetition and routine that only the occasional upheaval of life can change and give reality to.
Powerful insight into life and the future. Why we must always look forward from today.
Didn't you know? Time travel to the past is not a thing of fantasy,
unless you are one of those that does believe in phantasy, even though they say it is false...? LOL
the when and how is not ours to know. answers do come in the absence of the struggle. as rumi says, what you seek is seeking you. so just chill, love, and expect. oh well, this is how i experienced your poem, mr. Phillips. ahahaha
We can't have pleasure without knowing pain. This is an exceptional and thoughtful write that offers much for the reader to contemplate. I especially enjoyed the last 2 stanzas. Well done.
Excellent comparison since we all compete on the treadmill of life. There shouldn’t be to many “oops” since they are disastrous. How much baggage are you trying to lose and what kind? The competition next to you, faster, better, slower, quitting sooner staying longer? The treadmill of life can leave you feeling good, feeling successful, but at times can leave you tired and worn out. Stopping the run is all about timing. Sometimes, that is as good as it gets.
Yes, there's a lot here to consider. As a retiree, I've climbed off the treadmill of work, but still find myself searching for meaning and accomplishment. Suddenly I realize, there may not be much time left.
Are you still angry at God for having lost a loved one due to sickness or unexpected circumstances? This book will give you a better understanding of death, God’s role in it, and what decision is before each of us that would allow us to see them agai
