The Last Sunset

Far off in the distance beyond the land and sea
Where the clouds are slightly parted
Revealing more of you than me
Somewhere past my guiding star
With no connecting hills or streams
Where journey’s meet and dreams converge
There’s little more to see.

The thrust of all my days on Earth
The agonies and my tears
The simmers of my triumphs
The drizzles in my years.

I’ve felt the pains dismissed the gains
Tried to do what’s right
I’ve said all that came into my thoughts
Logged all that I could write;
Yet I never reached a single goal
Nor conquered all my fears.

Still I walk with only one regret
It troubles my aching soul
I fell short of all your expectations
While I never knew my own.

You've penned a word-choice gem, covering not only your personal grounding of experience, but afforded your readers the chance to measure their own sense of accomplishments and regrets. Your use of the sunset as a premise, as well as your choice of picture, was so right on. Congrats, Ed. This is one fine poem.

It is amazing how a sunset affects our soul. It leaves many of us to philosophy in different ways. This is a wonderful poem Ed, like all your others.

Always,

Inge

Wonderful poem. Synchronicity indeed. I just love this one. I'm going to share it on my facebook page 'Rathlin Poet'. You're such a fine writer and thinker. 'Where journey's meet and dreams converge' such a great line.
All my best to you,
Mary

Poignant and melancholy. It's easy to empathize with this poem as it has at its core a universal commonality of the hearts of man (and woman). It touched me greatly.

The eye protagonist of this poem has reach a goal, and no doubt more than one. All he has to do is read the first stanza to realize this.
