Songbook of Metaphors

In the sweet by and by
(I can’t taste it)
We will meet on that beautiful shore
(I’ll bet there’s more)

Fly me to the moon
(A brilliant idea)
And let me play among the stars
(That’s not kid stuff!)

Life is just a bowl of cherries
(Don’t take it serious?)
Life’s too mysterious
(I love a good mystery!)

There are days that make you happy
(And days that make you gay?)
There are days that take away the sunshine
(Let’s hope they take away the gay!)

You are my sunshine my only sunshine
(I like moonshine)
You make me happy when skies are gray
(You're so easy to please)

Our love affair was a wondrous thing
(Easy for you to say)
That we’ll rejoice in remembering
(The alimony payments won’t let me forget)

Love me tender love me sweet
(Then you’ll let me go?)
You have made my life complete
(You missed your period?}

By the light of the silvery moon
(It’s yellowish and reflected)
I love to spoon to my honey I’ll croon love’s tune
(But will you love me in the morning?)

There was a little girl
(the one with the little curl?)
Now when she was good she was very very good
(But when she was bad, she was great!)

As one who used to sing in Jazz clubs many of these standards, I can attest to their impact. BTW, you could add "You're Nobody til somebody loves you." Sinatra nailed it.

So many lines from songs dating way back to my youth and beyond. Some people won't recognize them and are missing out. See, being a certain age isn't all bad.

The Wholly Book of Genesis by Jay Dubya

The Wholly Book of Genesis is a humorous satire on the first book of the Old Testament where the Story of Creation, the building of Noah's Ark, Sodom and Gomorrah and the families of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob are thoroughly spoofed and broadsided.
