When someone gets so much into your "soul," you get a bit crazy... I don't claim this to be a "poem..."

Poem Artwork

If Only

If only I could listen to the rain
with you
If I could feel the breeze
with you
If I could watch the leaves fall
with you
If I could observe the mighty river flow
with you
If I could listen to the mountain
with you
If I could smell the earth
with you
If I could welcome winter
with you
If I could feel snowflakes on my face
with you
If I could feel life flowing through my veins
with you
I would be in heaven
with you

Beautiful photo, down by that river with your Love, If Only it could be after winter, if the heaven's opened and she came to you, an angel in disguise, but a real living one, you'd not be If only, you'd be With Only!

I am not a fan of you constantly repeating the phrases 'if I could' and 'with you'. I think they lessen the poem's appeal and I don't like how the poem sounds as I read it. It becomes tiring having to read these phrases over and over and the flow doesn't seem as smooth as a flowing stream. The phrases aside, the rest of the content is great though and makes me earn to experience these things with someone special.

I can imagine the lovestruck character in City of Angels reading this to Meg Ryan. So in love he is willing to give up his angel wings and become a flesh and blood mortal man.

It's coming from the heart, that's for sure!

Congratulations, Regis!

Regis, it is funny you should phrase your intro with, "when someone gets so much into your soul, you get a bit crazy". It is so appropriate and yet I never really thought of it in exactly that way. For me as your poem so aptly describes. There is a need for me, a want for me to share every event in life, large or small with my wife. When I am alone and witness a beautiful panorama, a piece of artwork, flowers, whatever, I feel cheated that I was not able to share that very moment with my wife. As though the most important ingredient of the experience is missing. So I very easily relate to your words. Thank you for putting some of my emotions into words. May love peace and joy be with you my friend. Jon Michael

So reminds me of a beautiful song of The Beach Boys from about 1973: Only With You. The force of love behind this heart-searing cascade of "with you"s is the stuff of Niagara, Regis, and is deep calling to deep. It's silent roar is transcendent and thunders with longing. The only sign of "crazy" is you saying that you don't "claim this to be a poem"... but I know what you mean: it is far more importantly, the voice of your heart. As I've said elsewhere this evening, but equally here: I'm sure your "with you" echo will be returned to you by she who shares your soul. Moving and uplifting, thank you. xx

If you're gonna be reching - might as well reach for the stars
