I don't understand how someone promises you the rest of her/our life and then makes a u turn and thinks it's okay. I just don't get it. Maybe some of you out there have an explanation.
Martini Memories
You came into my life
Like a sapphire dragonfly
Beauty that is quite beyond words
I did not even recognize at first
But it took no time
For time to mean nothing
You made us a martini
Only you can make
We let it sit there for minutes
Sipped it for hours
Felt the moments float by
Wrapped in loveliness and oblivion
Time meandered by
With the river below
We tasted the air
We sampled magical moments
Serenaded by breeze and birds
Just to be with you
It is all I could desire
I got lost in your eyes
And your smile always brings a missed beat to my heart
Still and ever
I have given all of me to you
I got lost in those moments you created
You painted the happenings
I thought would be forever
Since you said we were on a venture
A journey
A new path of life
That you revealed to me
I thank you
For martini memories
And you
I do not know where I am going
But I never want to go back
To before I loved you
Even if you’ve given me no choice
There are so many things that we would love to have and some things that are not so good for us. The best scenario is if you can allow her to walk away and leave a good taste in your mouth for the good things you shared and felt although the ending was sudden, unforseen and bittersweet. You must walk away too taking with you what you wanted out of that relationship yet learn that two minds do not one soul make...unless it were meant to be.
I personally do not believe that any love is ever "lost" it seems to me that we as humans do make promises with the best of intentions and on the flip-side, we, as humans "expect" too much from others. I sure have and have plenty of Martini Memories of which I am grateful. There is always a lesson learned and some wisdom about myself gleaned . . . when it's "over" Well done my friend and tight hugs . . . xo
sizzling and sensational. The bartender can serve me one of these martinis anytime. Sometimes being in love is like being drunk on a fine drink. Superb!
Beautifully written, Regis...always remember 'this too shall pass' and meanwhile, savour the memories...your emotons make you ever better as an artist...(and you do know that)
it seems there's a point when you go to everybody's weddings and baby showers and now all those people are either divorced or he/she works alot and never home, or they say I'd leave if "we" could afford it. Who knows, maybe she was a gulper not a sipper. No explanation for you but lot's of empathy. You deserve a fine wine. Here's too 2013!!!

Sometimes, we love hard, so hard that love breaks our hearts. And it is an old cliche that time heals all wounds, but love is never too far away.
WHAT CAN I SAY, REGIS, BUT...LIFE HAPPENS. THANK GOD FOR THE STRENGTH TO GET THROUGH IT, FOR THE LESSONS LEARNED AND FOR THOSE SPECIAL MOMENTS THAT YOU'LL NEVER FORGET. BELIEVE IT OR NOT, IT ALL GOES INTO 'THE MAKINGS OF...YOU'. THANKS FOR SHARING. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS
I can relate to this, there is a drink my father and I always shared, when he was alive, so on his birthday, and the date he left this earth, I make sure I have one. Some drinks are for good memories, but there is a couple I won't touch, for I just can't handle the memories, whether for the person or for something I did under the influence of it,
heart-breaking, Regis... such a portrait of a very unique and special relationship that will forever exist as it was in that moment of time... but, as you say, it's tragic when one moves away from that position, leaving the other no choice but to have to move to. But you wrap it all so well in your closing lines. No one can rob you of the reality of what was true at one time. But a real sadness that that somehow is now not "forever". Sadly my daugher has tasted of this very scenario this year; she has had to learn that it's the other who has changed, not her, and that what he felt for her at the time he was "different" WAS, indeed, real. Who can understand such things? All we can do is to sympathise, empathise and hopefully, comfort. Such a hard time of year to be party to the experience you write of here, too, so I hope this Christmas time brings you much unexpected joy and pleasure in those relationships that warm and touch your heart anew. And remember that life is a journey... who knows what the future will bring in terms of possible restoration of what might have been... Nothing and nobody is written in stone. Wishing you love and peace always. xx
Memories both shaken and stirred, Regis. As the saying goes, "Better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all". Not much consolation, uh? Good poem and good luck!!!
She certainly stirred your soul, Regis, quickened your senses and planted a seed of yearning. I think most people can relate to this one.
best wishes, kenny
Ah, Regis - our lives are a long series of tasting, savoring, misunderstandings and just plain mistakes. Often mistakes are the best teachers and this one has certainly taught you how to reach into your wounds, to taste and savor them. And share them. Thanks.
life is indeed fickle, Regis ... no matter how many olives you choose ...

They come and go, ravaging our hearts pounding our self-esteem into giant caverns never more to be found. Abject sorrow is their legacy.
Why becomes a one hundred letter word we chase for understanding we will never find. Love, an endless string of martini moments until the glass is dashed against a brick wall. Regis, a great poem that unfortunately has caused you much pain that will linger for a while. I wish you a speedy reconciliation and the fortitude to move on. Jon Michael
There are many who are in love with the idea of love but not with the realities that go along with it. I am sorry things didn't work out the way you planned but at least you learned the truth before you were in completely over your head.
Take care,
Sherr
This is poem is a shocker and a rocker.
The expression, "Rocking my world" can be thought of in many ways.
If this is a true expression of your love life, I feel for you buddy.
There are other fish but this maybe good time to go home and reflect.
Perhaps when Spring arrives you will have less regrets.
May peace be with you, may true love find you and Christmas blessings surround you.
You've created wonderful metaphors and images to portray a point in your life when everything was bliss and then came tumbling down... The great memories you've shared will never truly leave you. And I hope they can resurface again with a new special person in your life. Thanks for sharing this emotional creation of the heart that can very well be a tear-jerker for some. This one almost made me cry... Had I not been able to contain myself I would have shed those tears.
Heart-rendering, direct. A lament, a plea, a question. No, I do not understand how one breaks a commitment like this unless existential need necessitates it.
I'm going through something similar, don't like it at all, still hoping about it too, but it's not meant to be and i'd best leave it alone, but it's hard. I like the way you could put your hurt in words like this though, and always you will love that beautiful girl....i know the feeling like that too....
A sad lament if ever I've heard one, Regis, and one that has been felt by countless (literally countless) of lost souls wandering the earth's landscape searching for a way out of their numbness of a love gone to hell. I hear you loud and clear, buddy.
Ah, my tender-hearted friend, I FEEL YOU!!!! Every word you wrote resonates, it has taught me to think that love, no matter bitter of sweet, is never in vain as you so stated "I do not know where I am going
But I never want to go back
To before I loved you
Even if you’ve given me no choice"
Using Calgary as a backdrop the author satirizes the self-serving nature of the public as it continues to fatten itself, not only physically, but egotistically as well.
love,

Cheers,and that bitter taste remains.

And played you for a sap
You offered a cool martini
She wanted a sizzlin' Lamborghini.
Love ya!
