When I awoke, this "story" was on my mind. I do not know where it came from although it seemed most familiar. I don't do rhyming verses very often at all and I am not familiar with this rhyming sequence. I would not be surprised nor dismayed if you found it weird.
The Death of Beth
A lovely lass
A funeral mass
Bedlam brought this on
A mother weeps
Her memory keeps
Always and anon
The knight that is me
Will never be
Her minder anymore
I failed in my duty
To protect this beauty
One that I adore
I ride in the night
When most are in fright
Of things not understood
I do not care
And I will dare
To be all that I should
To find the beast
And at the least
To make him pay for death
I will go forth
To farthest north
Avenge the death of Beth
And when I am done
I promise to shun
All that is of my past
I will live alone
With a heart of stone
For the die has been cast
An excellent read of course this is an era I love...
A marvelous tale you spun for us to digest about this
knight who could not protect his fair maiden...
Wonderful
Love and light,
Lily

Sometimes, our dreams are the brilliance that waits to be created, and what a tale you have created, sir. Well done. :)
A noble poem from one with a noble heart. Doesn't every man have a secret longing to be a hero? I sometimes still call my Bill my "Knight in shining armour" and he is that to me.
Write on, Sir Regis...you have done well!
SOME DO ONLY LOVE ONCE...AND FOREVER. GOOD STORY AND I DO LIKE THE RHYME SEQUENCE. THANKS FOR SHARING, REGIS. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS
This title we have seen elsewhere with much the same story line after you wrote this. Must have come from a past life. An era I love and relate to very much also. Wonderful poem.
I have those dreams too. And quite a tale you have to tell! I see nothing wrong with the rhyming scheme because it makes it easier to read and understand… Possibly to sing, like an old balladeer's song.
Have a new dream, Regis, and find her again. I hear mandolins and Moorish strings, you see. And since you are the master of your dreams I look forward to another chapter, perhaps a saga ... it all works well.
On the contrary, Regis, I found this very well done, the verses short and to the point and the story has confirmed to my self that there are times when the blood much flow, even Regis seems to understand things are never and completely love and light. I very much enjoyed this.
This is my personal inspirational book of poetry. It contains many poems written for family, friends, and relevant life situations. Hopefully you will find some that will encourage and inpsire you in whatever arena you are found in your circle of l
