Song of a Cedar Seed
I would be
a cedar tree
arising from darkness
I would reach toward the light
and as I germinate
my roots would penetrate
the gentle earth
as I drank of dew
and bathed in rain
and sun alike
the wind would gently rock me
as I grew
I would become a gentle giant
of the forest
there
I would be a haven for birds
and creatures of the woods
would love me for my strength
serenity and steadfastness
I would be
a cedar tree
and as I stood
I would praise
my Lord
and
my Creator
would acknowledge me
and be pleased

tribute to the cedar, Regis. One of your best
poems I would say, and a British Columbian like
yourself must be blessed with mountain greenery.

I recall traveling to a particularly rocky parts of Tennessee and Kentucky where only cedars grew on the harsh soil, seemingly devoid of substance and nutrients. Cedar has a wonderful aroma that is useful for driving away insects. Making the wood long-lasting and less eaten by insects. I clad my house in Georgia with Western red Cedar. It required no paint or stain for 20 years. I only had to replace an occasional piece of siding that was damaged or deteriorated.

This is not a cedar tree at all. This is what we would wish we could be, were we not merely human beings with human weaknesses.
