Gratitude
I shall never forget the past,
All those things that did not last.
My childhood that was gone too soon,
Like lilac petals come the month of June.
My many loves I thought were true ,
Before I knew them, they were through.
The many hurts that some caused me,
Because of their petty jealousy.
The bullying endured at school,
Because being French just was not cool.
The unfair treatment from a nun,
Resentment toward her I have none.
The loved ones who are no longer here,
I sense their presence always near.
The struggle for justice to win,
While victory gave in to their sin.
But all of that, which I express,
Still leaves much more that I must stress.
I give thanks for the gift of life,
Ever grateful despite the strife.
I acknowledge kindness received,
By dark thoughts I am not deceived.
Thank you to all who show you care,
Sorrow is not so hard to bear.
In turn I share the light of love,
Brought forth by a dove from above.

I'm glad I didn't have to endure Catholic school. When I was in our local Catholic hospital. It was winter time when I always got nosebleeds. I had one, one day that was looking for a tissue to hold over my nose until it stopped. Unfortunately, the head nurse, an old nun spotted me and came to my rescue. She sat down beside me, grabbed my nose and pinched it so hard I thought she was going to break it. Blood welled up inside my nose and I nearly choked. I can just imagine her beating the nurse students with the pointer across their hands if they questioned her power.
She thought I was in there for a frivolous cold, why she was so mean. Later when I was paralyzed after surgery, I never saw her again. She was probably embarrassed.
