Amid
the strident wail of sirens
shouts
curses
gunshots
the blaring orders
of the electronic megaphone
and the chop chop chop
of helicopter rotor blades
the angelic voice of a child
singing
rises
above the cacophony
of the city night
and
like rose petals
on a snow drift
frozen drops of blood
that do not belong
the notes of her song
cut to the soul
like a knife
soon
all that is left
is a sigh

I kind of didn't understand this about the chld there singing, and the frozen drops of blood etc, it's as if I find it un believable a child would be singing while things go on like this in the dark of nite.
I noticed that your poem is written in big font and then towards the end there is one stanza that is in smaller font. Is there a reason for that? Just curious.
Your poem tells a story and it grabs my attention from the very beginning. It flows really well and I love your choice of words. I can actually picture what is going on in this poem thanks to the great imagery you use throughout the piece. I also find the piece touching. Thanks so much for sharing and keep on writing.
the first part sounds like Baltimore and our terrible crime problem.
Most interesting piece. And the federal prosecuter that was killed here they found blood from someone else in his car and on a toll ticket. G
This is very moving, and quite inspirational. Wonderful weaving of thoughts and imagery.

..unique..to say the least..phenomenal poetry! WOW!!!
A deep moving and even beautiful poem I especially liked this line:
'like rose petals on a snow drift'
and when it was finished I couldn't help but wonder 'why' this has to happen...(the innocent of life hurting so,)it's tragic,
I am wondering Regis, did you toss up
using a 'why' in place of 'sigh' in that last line???
Both are appropriate.
Yes,I agree, the harsh side of life leaves one with a sigh,no doubt about that.
Excellent poetry,another winner I think.
Fantastic, Regis. BTW, I couldn't get everyone's name in "A Poet, You Say?" but you and everyone I track are intended as those of whom I speak. Love in Christ~~ Bonnie Q
These moments are like a whole universe of beauty contained within a very fragile crystal globe. They shimmer, and are magical. And they remain imprinted in our souls sweetly, forever. Exquisitely emotive poem, Regis.
(Thank you for your kind and most appreciated reviews, and belated but very sincere congratulations)

First Edition Translation of Teselas by Carmen Crespo X111 César Simón Poetry Prixe 2016 Translated from Spanish by Robin Ouzman Hislop and Amparo Arrospíde
This collection of poetry addresses the nature of time, reflections on the natural world, the difficulty of loss,
contemporary social issues and gratitude for life.
Using Calgary as a backdrop the author satirizes the self-serving nature of the public as it continues to fatten itself, not only physically, but egotistically as well.
Keep it up!
