Firstly, let me thank all of you for your kind comments regarding "Absentia." I share the honor with you all who have been so supportive and encouraging.
"Marilyn's Jacket" has been edited and is a repost from my earlier days at the Den.

Poem Artwork

Marilyn's jacket
in the closet
looks lonely
Only two other items there
hanging like
draining meat or
drying fish
She must have loved animals
all that
soft fur and leather
I imagine
her foxy female face
cuddled among the silver hairs
and subtle hints
of sensuous musky scent
her too red lips
her too white teeth

I can't believe she could wear this
I wouldn't
I couldn't
I shouldn't

but...

...the waves of my conscience
no longer seem to reach
the shore
of my yesterday's
rights and wrongs

and life goes on

I HATE TO SAY THIS REGIS, BUT YOU, AT THAT TIME, MUST HAVE STILL HAD A 'THING' FOR MARILYN...OTHERWISE...YOU'D THROW THE JACKET OUT, GIVE IT AWAY, SELL IT OR STUFF IN A BAG IN THE DEEPEST PART OF YOUR CLOSET...'CAUSE, WHEN IT COMES TO AN ARTICLE OF CLOTHING LEFT BEHIND...OUT OF SITE IS OUT OF MIND AND 'THEN' IT'S...'AND LIFE GOES ON'. WELL DONE AND ENJOYED THANKS FOR SHARING, LOVE AND BLESSINGS, JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS

I'm with you, Regis. I wouldn't be able to shoulder the guilt. Not like I needed the meat & was just making practical use out of the hide. A strong write to declare your position. Hugs to you.

This poem touches me in many ways, as an animal lover, who doesn't like it that some people wear real fur jackets, as an admirer of Marilyn Monroe and as an admirer of Regis's poetry.

Hi Regis!
I just read the reviews for "Marilyn's Jacket". Isn't it interesting
to read what each individual sees in this piece? Or any other, for that matter.
I had a "silver fox jacket" given to me and I gave it to charity.
My friend had a mink jacket from years ago and had "Teddy Bears" made out of it.
I share the same views on this subject and many others, as you do.
Good work and a great message.

Love, Bonnie

A helluva commentary on the musings over people who mean (meant) something to us, and THEIR proclivities versus OUR sensibilities. And how we come to accept, in others, what we, ourselves, would not normally embrace. I also like the tongue-in-cheek presumption of a love for animals by someone who luxuriates in wearing their skins. Nicely done, Regis. Hanley

What a wonderful picture. Marilyn is certainly a very lovely young lady.

Your poem has a good sense of longings. I think it is because she isn't there now? Your longings for the way she was in the yesterdays supersedes the feelings of your new findings of the way she was.

I love this a lot! This poem is so well=expressed.

this was really pretty cool Reg, in my humble opinion, about Marilyn and I did love the subtle embibed in the equation you had sought, of there glazig at the clothes she had ought wore in the helms of your sweeping imagination, those furs, just so foxy, and the tenderly oh well just more, than illusion, as your mind knocked to come in more, to turn introversive, to rckon it just aother day of passin g life to consider it all this way, got us really deep in there too, fine statement Reg, congrats on the win too, there is allot swimming there al

I am generally a pacifist, though i watched Grandfather shoot and skin Opossums for a living, and have worn possum fur!
What pray tell is the difference between, Coons, possums,or Minks?
All Gods creatures, and if we dont need them to keep warm, as did our first forefathers, we need not bother, but it is a personal choice. No doubt Marilyn had that given to her, as a present.
Dunno if I'd want to wear it though Regis, unless of course I was visiting the Pole :)
Profound write, as always, peace to you

Yes!what a powerful poem this one is!I know the feeling actually,I have seen my friends wearing fur and they look so beautiful in it (and most of them are very nice folks, just unthinking of the pain caused to our criter friends.)My conscience always plays up on me because I keep my mouth shut and bite my tongue politely saying nothing to them but thinking it every moment.Like you I try to leave hints in my poetry bout animal rights. This poem is just perfect it tells it from an unusual angle. The good news is there is lots of fur around now that looks real but is fake, guess we cvan just hope Maralyn's jacket is fake.
Best wishes always
from
Kay.

Regis, wow!
"...and life goes on." So well penned. Our jackets in life do change. What we once wore with ease, no longer appeals to us or even fits us. Our spirits are tailored differently at different stages of our evolutionary process. Our waves of conscience surely no longer can reach the shores of our yesterdays, but the memories Regis are still just as palatable and haunting. I enjoyed the read. Excellent take on the ever-evolving stages of growth. Look forward to reading more of your work soon. And by the way, a hearty congratulations on the winning the poetry contest. With words framed like this I can readily see why you're the recent winner. Best to you Regis.
