The Dance Shoes
Saturday, early morning
Dance tram class,
Aerobic, lots of turns and twists and jumps.
You have to have the right shoes.
Women of all ages, all ways of life
Bonded by the love of dance
Same working, others with families
Squeezing an hour for the dance class.
Nobody has time, really, to chat,
Or get to know one another.
Thinking of myself as the queen of the dance floor,
(I know everyone else thinks the same about themselves!)
I decided to splurge on 20 dollars pair of dance shoes.
Next I know, I found myself lying on the dance floor, on my left side
“I miscalculated my move”, I thought
“I’m ok” I said
To the circle of people that immediately gather around me
One helping me to get up,
The other collecting my earrings from the floor
Even the big guy from the back of the class came
Checking my wrist: “You need to take care of this”
I felt, unmistakable, I was in a circle of love
I felt their care and concerns
I was one of them!
