An old man with a long white beard
Appeared in my mirror last night and he said:
See? Not as bad as you had feared
You went mad alright but quite agreeably
You had bet by now you might be dead
And yet here you are with dogs and poetry
Though completely out of your head
So somebody up there must like you I see
I listened with astonishment
And took note this old man looked a lot like me
Seen in between now and never
He told me he was with me in the old days
And ways between never and always
Never forget who you are he said: ever
He turned away and disappeared
But turning back to look I saw where he went
