Lucky

At a trying time to be
Trying to get through it if I can
I want to see how it ends
Without the authoritarian

I hope my country transcends
Having gotten to be an old man
Who has not forgotten yet
The rottenness has not gotten me

Might as well be fighting it
By writing about reality
Unforgotten beckoning
The forgetful to a reckoning

By trying to do the best
I can for the rest of whatever
Trying not to get depressed
About it between now and never

Worried about my young friends
And the future we have seen between
When hope can be hard to see
Both young and old seen as lesser-than

But they all know what I mean
Through all of this I have known they knew
The only hope I have seen
For the darkest hour before the dawn

Hope to spark the break of day
What may be forgotten not yet gone
They remember anyway
Lucky for me and humanity

At a trying time to be
After a lifetime of trying to
I can see how life goes on
Lucky now the kids know what to do

 Reviews of "Lucky"
Reviewed by Ronald Hull
Reviewed on October 28, 2019
The kids are really lucky to be born in this time with all the opportunity before them. But I hearing the court orders those who are disenfranchised, left out and grasping at straws. Life is not what it seems. Why so many are opting for a kind of escapism from lack of the ability to move forward.

In the Whirlwind by Tichaona Chinyelu

In the Whirlwind is a poetic storm that frees history from the cages of corruption and puts it in the hands of everyday people. Words are weaved into a new fashion statement that has nothing to do with runways but everything to do with projects!
