A Terracotta Warrior Facing East
The day after the day after Christmas Day
It hurts too much to think about it still
But someday I may write about my
Marisol and wonder why she had to die
Not ready to think about it until
The snow melts from the grave then maybe I will
Honestly not knowing what to say
Yes I know she was old but so am I
Left to be still until and unless
Something else unexpected happens I guess
Standing there trying to understand why
Someday I may sit down and write about her
And how it is to be without her
But I can see someday is not today
Undemanding but wondering nonetheless
Because one I love was taken away
Left to hang on and hope for the best
All I can do is to do what I have done
One of a dog pack now minus one
Shell-shocked and praying I may forget the rest
In time to go on going anyway
I gave her a good burial at least
Standing in the grave and looking tough
A terracotta warrior facing east
And now I too have to be tough enough
Life asks me to stay so I say yes
The day after the day after Christmas Day
