My Brother Dog



Some of us are more brotherly than others
I grew up without any of many
Of which Dog is one more brother than any

Someone told me dogs could not be brothers
Being dogmatic his dogma I suppose
Seeing brothers otherwise as it does

But this dog and I know as any god knows
Brothers who become have other mothers

I have come to call him Brother Dog because
He is one more brother than ever was
A being like me I like being around

Seeing him as my canine analogue
I am able to see him as someone too

As we get old together we agree
When it was me or the pound each of us found
A brother from another point of view

When Sister Dog died and we wondered should we
Go on going then we would decide to
Knowing alongside each other we could be

For what it meant and for what we went through
For me and none other than my Brother Dog
