Choices
By
Bill Cottringer
Choices are only between two things—
Doing this or doing that,
Being obedient and conforming,
Or rebellious and disobedient,
Doing right or doing wrong,
Telling the truth or lying,
All in the name of being free.
But guess what?
There is no freedom,
In choices and consequences,
That have already been planned,
So where is the freedom?
But this is just half the story,
Because the real choice,
Is between two other things,
Much more important—
Right or wrong according to who?
What other people tell you,
Or what you tell yourself?
Too bad the silent inner voice,
Doesn’t get heard enough,
Because of all the outside noise.
That is what ear plugs are for,
Virtual ones or rubber ones,
Just another choice.
