 What is My Purpose?

By

Bill Cottringer

 We all search,

Just in different directions,

In different ways,

Getting different results,

With different efforts.

An answer may come,

From asking good questions:

What do I enjoy doing most?

What am I best at doing?

What do others say?

What needs doing most?

What is hardest for me to do?

Or still others:

Is my purpose to find one?

To serve or help others?

To laugh and have fun?

To lead a good life?

To experience life fully?

To become my best self?

To use my gifts?

To right wrongs?

To raise a family?

To find meaning?

Training for something else?

Getting peace of mind?

Making a difference?

Provoking the truth?

Enjoying beauty?

Understanding  life?

Solving problems?

Beating Adversity?

Finding true love?

Resolving conflicts?

Collecting treasures

Or just one thing—

Making progress

Doing any of these

By not judging?

The Prosperity Zone

I would imagine most people would say to incorporate Bud's and Ron's thoughts, but that would be almost be mentally impossible. I think Budd has the best answer. Great poetry to get us thinking.,

A friend of mine always said , It's a great life if you don't let it get you down. I try to follow that advice.

Good advice from Budd and Ron! Quite awhile ago, while in graduate school I did a very interesting research project--I simply asked a group of 95+ year old's, what they regretted most in their long lives, so I could help younger people avoid having unnecessary regrets. The consensus was:

1. Not taking enough chances in life (the people who take the most chances are usually happier).

2. Not contemplating life enough (if a person isn't living out his or her life's unique purpose, there usually isn't much enthusiasm or contentment in that life...)

I think if I question myself that much, I'd go crazy. What a dizzying array of questions like some personal interrogation. I question myself very little. Think outward rather than inward. It's a very sane way of living a life.
