Believing

A short poem to understand what beliefs really are.

 Believing

By

Bill Cottringer

Brain’s shortcuts—

Unquestioned assumptions,

Filling in the blanks,

Proving Cause and effect,

Simplifying the complex,

Connecting the dots,

Avoiding the details,

Proving what is true ,

Dismissing the rest,

Growing in certainty,

Just by believing,

Creating strong emotions,

Dividing friends,

When all believing

Is merely making believe.

The Prosperity Zone

The make-believe world of believers. Making all complex issues very simple by relegating them to the various category the belief as so graciously provided.

Through constant repetition, hardwiring the belief to the brain so that a change of thought pattern or even attitude becomes extremely difficult except under very traumatic circumstances.

Your poem, cuts sharply into belief or those who can only live by it in their narrow world of rote thinking.

Yes about faith--the belief in any "truth" is based on faith of the accuracy and completeness of source. Hence any belief is a leap of faith between the source and you conclusion of the thing either being true of false. Beliefs can never be objectively proven to be true or false because the source can never be studied with any degree of validity and reliability. Heck, even human perceptions of the senses are fooled--optical illusions. So, when we argue about what is true and factual or not, we are just arguing about the strength of our own faith that what we think we know is so. Faith rules.
