What happens when your candidate loses an election? How do you react? Here's how one man reacted and what we can learn from it.
He was a tall man,
A sturdy man,
A rugged man,
A certain man.
If he said it was Christmas tomorrow,
Go hang out your stocking.
A knight in dusty cowboy clothes.
Vanquished foes came to meet this man,
Who loved his land, who felt strongly
about things, political things.
And he worked for a man,
Asked people to vote for a man,
But when that man lost?
“I didn’t vote for him,”
the western voice said,
“But he’s my President”
And wished the other man well.
I thought of that man the other day.
As we angrily rolled along.
Another new leader, more disappointment.
Disappointed voices huddling to one side,
Darkened words rising from the opposite corner.
How we have fallen
Over the years,
Can we not come to say?
My mother was a housewife working many menial jobs for extra money. She was a Republican and always voted that way, including the last election. My father was a truck driver, union member and a declared Democrat. He never voted. He's been dead for the last three elections so he certainly didn't vote those.
The middle of America has fallen for the convenience of letting others do things political for them. An intelligent, informed, and educated electorate would never have fallen for the PT Barnum charade that the populist candidate pulled on them. The problem of the tall, assured independent thinker/actor is a myth not the reality. Most of the electorate is completely ignorant of what is really necessary, bound up in their lives of self-indulgence.
We'll never know what might have been if it had gone the other way. All I know, is that the most abysmal choice of candidates has given us the most abysmal of presidencies. We need to get rid of the gerrymandering of districts that has given us the partisan politics of today, and get back to the middle and compromise. Personally, I think that the tea party and the freedom caucus are among the the worst thing to happen in politics. And then throw Fox news into the equation, and you have the ideology problems we have been seeing over the last decade.

The middle of America has fallen for the convenience of letting others do things political for them.
