Did I request thee, Maker,
from my clay to mold me
man? Did I solicit thee
from darkness to promote
me?
Paradise Lost
A deficit of rainbows is the origin of darkness
and this compulsion the battle of our sanity lost.
This imperfection, the detritus of our creation,
a terrain of killing fields and unquiet graves.
What good does it do to deny there is a God?
What good does it, believing in a caring God?
Would thou my God allow the blood of innocents,
entry to this "uncouth dream of evil sprung",
to fall victim to the dark that comes and goes?
What comes from man is of man alone, is it not?
The temptation to cast stones at the infinite
does not help those of us who now must live
in this house of dark that turns upon the light.
Agents of catharsis must follow Plato's path.
Did you make me Lord, to write these words,
or did you mold me to shout love to darkness?
Or did an infinite God cast off half-formed clay
to wander in the world till the light of rainbows
faded, succumbing and in thrall to the dark?
By their hand the guilty fall to the darkness.
We thought a mouth of love spouted only rainbows,
but whisperings of the toad wrested sleep from us.
The ages of the darkness are the price of mortality
and this inconstant rainbow is the price of humanity.
Age old questions that you have skilfully molded...
Diana...
The greatest argument for there not being an all-knowing god is life's inconsistent ups and downs that any beneficent god would easily dispel. We are not being tested by god. We are being honed by evolution to try to get smarter and do away with bad habits from our reptile past.
At first I thought you wrote “incontinent” and was looking for a funny.
