To Be Me

I wrote this poems with thoughts of how people judge others from what they see on the outside without even knowing who they really are. While thinking about that fact, it made me want to be me. (Enjoy)

If a flower stops growing

from no springtime ,no raintime

and also no sunshine

I want to be me.

When food is low

and bills are due

and there is noone

to turn to

I want to be me

Like the sounds of a jetplane

flying high in the sky

like the smell of mama's collard greens

I choose not to shy

shy away from reality

of wanting to be me.

To be me is who I am

like taking that first step

and remembering to say

"thank you mam"

One step backwards to gather

enough strength to leap two.

to be me is what I'll do.

My soul says yes to that

inner being because people judge

you from what they are seeing.

Just to be me

is to be who I am.
