For those that have ears, please hear,
for those that have eyes, please see,
that bumping in the trap can no longer be our reality,
our hood is full of our future kings and queens,
but we refuse to pick up our crowns and take our position to help write history,
we walk freely on soil, but our minds are not free,
we think inside the box, within the confines of what somebody else wants us to be,
held down, supressed anger, bottled up rage,
we kill each other,
there's no longer a need for the master to crack the whip,
or the slave traders to pack ships,
cause we've been programmed by Willie Lynch to lie, cheat, and deceive,
we leave our kids for dead as we drown our sorrows and pain in alcohol, lust, and haze,
cocaine cowboys, pipe dreams,
heroine in needles and all other chemical dependancies,

we buy brand name clothes and put rims on cars,
spend thousands on blood diamonds that remind us of our ancesters in bondage,
dealing in the name of survival,
playing against incredilble odds,
we push poison in our own backyard,
and then make it rain,
trickin off our dough, trying to mask the pain,
surrounded by vultures and leeches,
sucking the life out of the atmosphere.

I'm an ex-dope girl,
I've seen both sides of the game,
the money, fame, and trips overseas,
and the neglect, abuse, and pure insanity,
when parents are absent and kids raise themselves,
when the block takes a boy to a man and fills his hands with dough,
where young girls sell themselves short and by the age of 18 their played,
used up, diseased, and insecure.

Talk it like we walk it,
if we can stand on the block all night and day,
in snow, sleet, and rain,
we get it crackin,

why can't we fill those classrooms the same way?
why must we fill the prisons and count the days until they crack the gate?
only to return to the same cycle of self defeating hate.

Black history is about overcoming, rising above, in spite of,
we don't come from money,
we come from royalty,
we come from math and science,
from discovery and invention,
from creation and determination to be the best,
from making something out of nothing,
ingenuity,
family, kingdoms, and communities,
we build with our hands and think with our minds,
we feel with our hearts and raise up our own kind,
we know that we are made in His image only a little lower than Himself,
that we are powerful beyond measure,
and if we try,
our own destiny we can manifest.

Let us MAKE history,
take part in the shaping of what is to be,
get free,
or die trying,
the youngins are always watching for the way to go,
walk tall in the face of adversity,
get free,
make history.

I like reading this poem alot because everything you said is true.We need to achieve our goals and realize our full potential. We need to take care of ourselves and get rid of the negativity that has hold us back from achieving dreams.Young people have so many gifts, but they are not using them in a way that will make them better.
