Why Don't You Shut Up

A poem about recovery and what we put ourselves through

 Why Don’t You Shut Up

You’re not going to get better

You are not a ship moving on the water.  You are harbored, while the water moves beneath you

Every obstacle is insurmountable

Every triumph self-evident

You’re not going to get better

The boar rages without knowing at

The iniquity of the hungry humans, clever by desperation

It maintains a desire to

Keep its blood.  This is the way it has to be.

You’re not going to get better

You saw the show from the stage

You had no right to do that

All she said was that it wasn’t the whole show and she was right

But you choose

To live in this fragile borderland

Between indignation and shame

It’s why you came

Why don’t you shut up?

Curl into a flower and exude your honeybee self

Too pretty

For words, you could learn them for years

      and still not speak

You may improve

But you’re not going to get better.

It's true, we live where we choose to, so often we have the ability for change. We should listen to our heart, not negative thoughts and people. Well penned, Adam.

I was attracted by the title of this poem. However, this reads like a message to someone you know whom I don't, and I won't pretend to know what this is about or what that person's life may be like, since we all live a different lifestyle.

However, this is an effective poem, expressive in great choice of words!

From what I read I think you are writing about what a teacher told you about your talent. So many talented people have that person in their life that holds them back and they never get to flourish with what they were given immediately that was so spontaneous and unique.

If I'm wrong, forgive me. I often have misinterpreted poems and was treated badly on standard tests where I had to interpret poems using multiple-choice answers.

Well expressed poem. I can relate to this as a trauma survivor. I like the ending a lot. I improve, I sometimes exceed my expectations, but then I snap back. Not much. But enough to remind me I will always carry these memories that will make me feel pain now and then. But also I feel gratitude over the beautiful treasures that life has granted me since then.

I have taken pride in writing this novel as so many people have the wrong impression on bikers because they dress in leather clothing which is to protect themselves in case of an accident. The majority of bikers are known Policemen, Firemen, Doctors,
